I don't know what to write about.
Oh, I know one great good thing: I completed my 45 day sugar detox this past Monday at midnight. My son and I had a banana split date scheduled for Tuesday afternoon to celebrate. Let me tell you, I had been thinking about that banana split all day Monday and all Tuesday morning. And yet, when the time came to order I heard the words "root beer float" come out of my mouth. I was like well OK then I guess I want a root beer float. So, that's what I had. It was DELICIOUS! I couldn't eat but half of it though. Then about 2 hours later I ate a fig bar (the equivalent of about 2 Fig Newtons) and I felt nauseous. I didn't feel like having anything sweet until Friday... I ordered a pineapple shake, but, again, drank less than half of it and couldn't stand it any more. So, at the risk of counting my chickies too soon, I think I have finally licked my sugar addiction!
Now I want to challenge myself again!
Omg I am getting a sick feeling, like sea sickness, from listening to the song "Beyond" by The Moody Blues on headphones. Relief... much better... I had to skip over it.
Anyway... where, was I (my poor ears)... yes I want to challenge myself again. I've always loved to challenge myself, but sometimes have a habit of making my life challenging in not very positive ways. Not always, but sometimes. I'd like to keep the focus on good challenges to develop healthy habits. The idea is to either do or not do something for 45 straight days that is 1)good for me and 2)sort of hard but doable, in hopes of developing a positive habit that I'll be able to maintain most of the time thereafter. Like with the sugar thing... of course I'm not going to go my entire life without sugar, but instead of eating it daily, I now only eat it on rare occasions and in a small amount.
Based on some of my really bad habits or things that I just want to change, I've narrowed my next challenge possibilities down to these:
- Not eating after 7:30 PM. When I gave up sugar, I noticed I was snacking in the evening quite a bit. A tablespoon of hummus is healthy. An entire fucking tub of hummus in two days? Not so much. So, I'm thinking nothing but water and green tea after 7:30.
- Keeping my bedroom clean and free from clutter and making my bed in the morning.
- Reading for one hour.
- Exercising for 45 minutes.
- Play the piano for an hour.
- Spend an hour working on the quilts I've been trying to make for my nieces and nephew for an embarrassing amount of time now.
- Eat 100% raw.
- No Diet Mountain Dew
- Be "Master of my Domain."
So, I'm hoping that y'all are more helpful. I'm also open to new suggestions, if you think it's appropriate for me. I'm starting on Wednesday, June 24th so please comment your vote before then. Thanks! I love y'all!!!
And now here is the Random Six:
[you can listen for 7 days]
Andrea True Connection - More, More, More (pt. 1) (there's a part 2? really?)
Junior Wells - Messin' with the Kid
Patty Griffin - Heavenly Day
X - Breathless
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Upon this Tidal Wave of Young Blood
Ryan Adams - Come Pick Me Up
One more thing I've been meaning to share for several days now: I would like to thank Grey Weirdo for bringing me the funny (<---click there) via his Live Journal. Admittedly the novelty has worn off over the past couple of days for me, either that or they need to learn to discriminate between ridiculous funny and ridiculous just plain stupid, but I'm still getting a kick out of it.

Ever try cutting out salt?
ReplyDeleteDitch the Dew! Artificial sweeteners are bad news!
ReplyDeleteAnd being Mistress of Your Domain is overrated.
Hello Robert, thank you for your input. I eat very little salt. I don't add it at the table. I do add salt to my pasta and rice water, but not much. I also do not eat processed foods at all. I think I've cut it back as much as I am willing to. That's a great suggestion though, most people do eat way too much salt. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteBellona of Avalon: I stopped consuming artificial sweetener except for one diet mountain dew per day. My sister wants me to stop totally also, but it's hard to not drink soda. I love the fizzy sweet of it. But I know it's bad. I was only joking about the "master of my domain" -- it's a Seinfeld joke. Remember that episode? lol
OK, so far I have 1 vote for no diet mountain dew and one vote for zero salt.
I love the fizzy sweetness of soda, too. So I drink one or two Coke Classics in a week. Then it's really a treat and I enjoy it and the empty calories aren't so much of an issue. Remember, it's about the joy!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I'd like to say how happy I am about your Dad, 7 days without a drink is amazing! Unfortunately my father passed away without giving up the drink, whenever I hear of someone who has I always feel a renewed sense of hope and belief in the strength to overcome such difficulties.
ReplyDeleteAs to your challenge, after years of swearing off Coke (the full suger variety at that). I am back drinking the evil stuff & finding it more difficult to give up this time, so I vote for giving up the soda (or pop as we call it over here). i will try too.
Good luck!
I'm impressed by your great attitude towards your dad.
ReplyDeleteI vote for the making the bed/making the room clutter free one. I know the little bits that I practice of Feng Shui really make a difference in how the room feels.
Good luck with whichever one you chose!
If I were as brave as you, I'd pick the bedroom and uncluttering. That's what I need to do in my OWN life, so I might as well try to live vicariously through you since I'm not doing it myself. LOL.
ReplyDeleteAlso another suggestion that wasn't on your list, but that's a fun one is write more letters! :D
diy denial seems cruel and self hating. id go with reading for an hour a day.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand what you mean by diy denial, Carlos. ???
ReplyDeletePlay the piano for one hour. When you can do Bach's Two Part and Three Part Inventions without causing your brain to sweat you can then do anything. Carlos is saying "Do It Yourself" (diy) denial. He may have a point. The "system" denies us much without our permission anyway.
ReplyDeleteEd: I understood that diy means "do it yourself", I just hate that this is seen as a denial when my objective is to gain something much greater! If eating late at night is making me feel bad, then giving it up is bound to make me feel BETTER is it not? But it's all a matter of perspective, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteWendy: I have bookmarked the link and will read more tonight. I love everything you write so I'm sure I'm going to love it! Thanks!
Dina: Thank you! Well it took me a while to decide to have this attitude, but I've been much happier since. People are human, you know. We are here to learn lessons, not to have a perfect life. He's my dad for a reason. :)
Sarah: I am so sorry to hear about your dad. :(
Current Tally:
2 votes for cleaning my room and keeping it that way (it looks like somebody turned it upside down and shook it right now!)
2 votes for cutting out the Diet Mountain Dew (this sounds like torture, but I know it would be very good for me! Artificial sweetener is poison and regular soda gives me hypoglycemic attacks. I could replace it with a green smoothie a day which would be yummy!)
1 vote for playing the piano (weighted keyboard actually.)
1 vote for zero salt (my need to defend the salt only highlights that I probably need to cut it altogether! It is obviously a hot button! lol)
1 vote for reading (Carlos, I have five books with bookmarks stuck in them right now, I really should read more regardless of which challenge I decide on.)
Thank you for your suggestions everybody. :) I'm looking forward receiving more input.
You added some new ones I see. I'm sticking with my facebook answer, yoga, and I still say that 45 mins. is too much. 30 is easier to stick with, jmho, but it's your challenge and your body. :P kisses
ReplyDeleteTagged you!
ReplyDeleteI think since you are looking for a 45 days challege, you may consider
ReplyDeletespending an hour working on the quilts.
This way it wil be an accomplished 45 days.Good Luck !
wow.. wonderful resolutions..u r on right track lisa...great going...cheers
ReplyDeleteThe nice thing is no matter what you end up picking you've got some great alternatives for the next 45 day slot out from this one! :) Especially the way people keep adding things.
ReplyDeleteThere's no way I'd open myself for the "what do you think I should improve in my life" discussion. I wouldn't live through it. LOL.
This really shows what a remarkable person you are (IMHO).
Wendy: Awww shucks. I'm not very remarkable though. What I am is incapable of sticking to a decision. Having a vote was actually a cop out. lol
ReplyDeleteRamesh: But I am not going to do all of these things. Just one for now. I noticed you did not offer your opinion. :/
Daanish: You have a good sense of reason. I was actually just thinking that no matter what I do, I should quilt in the evenings while I am relaxing. I have yet another niece on the way so I need to get busy!
Johnny: So noted. :)

We need a tie-breaker! If you haven't chimed in yet, please do. Thanks! xox
Why do I get a kick out of potty words! I crack up when friends and relatives spew out the F word. As you can see I don't curse. This was one of my habits I had to break when I married my husband five years ago. So, I have to crack up when I hear the word. It just sounds so gooooood!. I liked the hummus line. I too have a tub in my fridge that I've been dipping into every night. I may break down and eat the rest tonight. hee hee.
ReplyDeleteI'll try get to your tag in a couple of days. It should be fun. I have been neglecting my blog. Thanks for the nudge.
Oh, and my vote is the Quilts.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anna. xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your answers! :)
